Sumi Art Exhibition

Bainbridge Arts & Crafts is pleased to participate in the Bainbridge Island Asian Art & Heritage Festival with an exhibition and workshop on the Asian sumi art tradition.

Puget Sound Sumi Artists (PSSA) exhibit sumi art, both traditional and contemporary, at BAC from May 1 – 31. Co-founded by the late BAC artist Fumiko Kimura, PSSA members study, practice, and teach Asian art traditions such as ink painting (sumi-e), calligraphy (shodo), and flower arranging (ikebana).

This February, twelve Puget Sound artists working with paint, clay, glass, ink, wire, fiber, and photography show their skill in utilizing low contrast, high contrast, and tonal grays to create impact, mystery, mood and beauty. 

Our February exhibition features art by Theresa Choi, Mikey Cozza, Leah Gerrard, Gary Groves, Larry Halvorsen, Sandee Johnson, Dorothy McGuinness, Linda Okazaki, Steve Stolee, Christie Tirado, Jeanne Toal and Kay Walsh. The Figure Simplified with Amy Daspce

It can take years to learn to draw the figure, but this inventive course speeds up the process by getting to the heart of what you really need to know to feel confident sketching people whether working from life, a photograph, or your imagination. This course combines techniques found in gesture drawing and fashion illustration to teach you how to render believable, expressive figures in graphite and ink.
