Community Outreach

At Bainbridge Arts and Crafts, we reach far beyond the galleries’ walls. The programs on this page highlight a few examples of how we bring art, beauty, and joy to those who need it most. Consider making a donation, so we can reach even further!

Art After 60

Once a month, four of our teaching artists pack up a mobile art project and head out to a residential retirement house or community center to lead an art activity. Collage, painting, sculpture, papercraft—any number of hands-on activities might be on the list. Tailored to participants’ abilities and interests, each lesson is designed for maximum enjoyment. These classes serve as a platform for socializing, telling stories, and sharing histories—all of which promote health and well-being!

Our current Art After 60 partners are Wyatt House, Madrona House, Madison Avenue Retirement Center, The Bainbridge Island Senior Center, and Island Volunteer Caregivers. We are thankful for grant funding provided by the Bainbridge Community Foundation in support of the Art After 60 Program.

Art in the Lobby

We’ve all been there: fretting in a hospital waiting room while a loved one is being treated. We are stressed, sad, worried. Art in the Lobby is a program to help those in such a situation. Easy, informative art projects and demonstrations are designed by our professional teaching artists to take your mind off your worries for a little while, offering respite and a soothing spot of beauty. Currently we offer weekly programs at Harrison Hospital Bremerton from June to September.

Creative Connections

Much like our Art After 60 program, Creative Connections equips teaching artists with mobile art projects designed and delivered specifically for their participants. Currently, we offer monthly classes at Stephens House, a day facility for developmentally challenged individuals run by the Bainbridge Island Special Needs Foundation. The goal: having fun while making art and connecting with others!

Art Lending

Art is a powerful medicine. With art leant from Bainbridge Arts & Crafts people are able to view high-quality original works of art along hospitals’ hallways, created by professional Bainbridge Arts & Crafts artists. Twice a year we rotate the offerings, bringing in a fresh batch of beauty to help heal the body and soul.
